Goodbye, Sandy!

Hurricane Sandy passed through my area in the early hours of the AM this morning and the damage was a lot less than it perhaps could have been had we been closer to the sea but it was still pretty ferocious and a little scary at times as that wind came howling through with loud crashes and crackles as trees and transformers came down and went out!

The tree in our yard came down, or at least a huge chunk of it did! We were VERY lucky that the entire tree didn't uproot or else we'd have surely lost the house or a few rooms in it!!

I hope that everyone touched by the storm are able to recoup and get back together safe, sound and soon! Best thoughts are with you all!

There is a Storm Comin'!

As the hurricane prepares to batter the East Coast, I will be away from the blog for a little until all is good and well! Stay safe, be prepared, listen to authorities! If you're told to evacuate, please leave! It isn't worth putting your life, or theirs, in danger! Hugs xx

Kimco Wine Bottle Covers! Review AND Giveaway! (2 Winners!) - Ends 11/10/12

I recently had the chance to try out a Kimco wine bottle cover and am delighted to be able to share these with you just in time for the holiday season!

Hailed as: “The New Way to Gift Wrap Wine” these washable, reusable, stylish and affordable bottle covers are able to transform just about any ordinary 750ml bottle of wine into a little piece of art for the table!

I received the cover in the color of ‘Pewter Paisley’ but they are available in several other designs to mark the occasion and to suit your flare! I am going to be using this particular cover on a bottle of wine that I will gift over the holiday season – most likely at one of the dinners we shall attend over thanksgiving to give it that extra pizzazz instead of handing over the same old boring bottle of wine.

In the mean time, I have taken it upon myself to test the cover out on a decorative bottle I have at home to show you just how wonderful these are and how easy they are to use! I simply started at the neck of the bottle and pulled the cover down over the body and straightened it out to sit with a pretty pattern.

Swift and easy to use, the transformation takes just seconds and the re-usability of it makes this a gift that can keep on giving! And, just when you thought it couldn't get any better, it certainly does as these covers come with a full size gift bag and tag to seal the deal! At just $2.99 per cover, these are affordable little delights that you just can’t turn down!

If you are interested in learning more about the company that supplies these covers, you can find them at kimcoproducts.com, which is a sister company of Booksox.com/The Turtle Company, where you can find similar covers for other household items such as books and tissue boxes, which also make a very stylish addition to the home!!

And here is where it gets exciting! The wonderful people over at Kimco Products have been generous enough to offer 2 of our readers a set of 2 wine bottle covers EACH, which you can use for whichever occasion you choose! All you have to do to enter for a chance to win is to scroll down to the rafflecopter and complete the 3 simple entries! No fuss, no gimmicks - although there IS also a bonus entry for each day you share the tweet for the giveaway on twitter!!

What are you waiting for? Go and get those entries in and brighten up those bottles already!!

NOTE: This giveaway starts at 00:01am on 10/26/12 and will end on 11/10/12 with TWO (2) winners! The winners will be picked at random via Rafflecopter and each person’s mandatory entry will be verified! The winners will be notified by email of their win (so please make sure you enter with a legitimate account) and will have 48 hours to claim their prize! Mom’s Gone Bronson is NOT responsible for shipping the prize to the winner – this will be shipped directly from the company itself.

Thank you AND...GOOD LUCK!!

Peace is NOT dead! It just needs to come out of hiding!

Whenever I switch on the T.V lately I am bombarded with terrible news of murder, abuse, animal cruelty and anything else of a sad and sorrowful nature! I would like to think that people aren't all that bad underneath a rough exterior in a few cases but I do wonder sometimes in what kind of a world our next generation are being brought up!

As the mother of 3 kids of all different ages I worry just as much about the oldest as I do the youngest and all for completely different reasons and situations BUT I would like to think that each one of them has the capacity to grow into a good, nurturing, loving person and do no harm to others!

It really boggles my mind when I see young boys murdering a girl for her bike, or "kids" butchering animals for sport or seriously harming others over a pair of sneakers or shoes! I can't imagine what it takes to think that something so vicious is O.K. in any way, shape or form!

Is it the parents, the parenting, the living situation, the dilapidation, social circumstance or just a downright ignorance and disrespect? Perhaps all of the above in a "funny kind of way" - it would certainly seem so in some areas.

We live in a community where the schools aren't up to standard and where by the children run free creating havoc like something out of a 1980s underground movie! We are just one song and dance away from our own musical, in fact - just break out the MP3 instead of the boom box and we've got ourselves a show!

Some might suggest that children are being parented by a generation who had children too early and who are now trying to live their own lives to make up for their miss-spent youth, which then leads the child or children to effectively raise themselves! I don't know if I agree as I was 16 when I had my son, who is 16 now and has never been arrested, taken to jail, injured another on purpose or not stepped up when someone needed a little help! If I can raise a child so young then I think it is only fair to suggest that others can too, so perhaps that isn't it?

So how about discipline? I know I certainly received a few slaps around the legs for talking back or acting out as a child and they didn't do anything but help me become less of a pain in the butt to my parents or the people around me! Act out, get a slap, don't act out anymore - it worked for us! I never did slap any of my children and I certainly wouldn't take out a belt or ruler but sometimes I wonder if some children respond better to a slapped leg over a kindly speech and a good grounding for their troubles. We're so caught up in a world where we're not allowed to even breath wrong that a slap these days is almost as crazy a thought as breaking a few arms and legs - we're too scared to parent our kids any other way than with kindness or nothing at all!

What about money, circumstance, life? Certainly no one can argue that globally we're reaching a point of sheer crisis and it might be the deciding factor in it all! Parents can't make ends meet and are out in droves working their backsides off to feed their children, which may or may not leave them to their own devices for hours a day, which might then bring us back to the children parenting themselves debate - but I am fairly sure back when I was younger most parents still managed to leave their children after school for an hour AND parent them at the same time, installing manners, respect and the ability to not have a breakdown or a crime spree if they had to spend an hour on their own!

Life certainly is tight right now though for a LOT of people and the more people I speak to, the more I see it! Some people you wouldn't even know if you looked at them that they were off to sleep in their car, on the floor or in a house with no electric tonight, tomorrow or for the rest of the week! You wouldn't think that so many people can't guarantee a meal on the table or shoes on their feet just by looking at them! Times are hard, they're really tough, and no one seems to either admit to it or realize it, but we really are all struggling.

I heard an expression on T.V last night that we're living in an hourglass economy where by the people in the middle are being squeezed and either rising to the top or plummeting to the bottom, but there is no middle ground anymore! The poor stay poor and the rich keep on getting richer! I mean, how hard is it to see that when you have NOTHING you can save NOTHING and you can make NOTHING to climb out of that hole unless you have a very lucky break or work so darn hard that you're in a work coma by the end of the day just to keep that roof over your head?

I don't have a solution to any of the questions and I certainly have no way of knowing if any of this is ever going to change (or whether this was always here) but I do see it very clearly now!

I would LOVE for a world where money wasn't the be all and end all of everything and where by we all had the opportunity to prosper and develop or to at least live without fear of hunger or homelessness, which we have to face as a real possibility for MANY families with the state of things as they stand!

Money is slowly losing its worth and these crazy millions and billions being shifted from here to there or borrowed from overseas or whichever way it runs just dumbfounds me and pushes my tiny little brain to the brink of crazy trying to piece it all together!

We're missing the big picture! We're not immortal and life is so short. We don't NEED to spend it worrying about how much money is here or how much food is on the table - people have a right to eat and have a roof over their children's head and shoes on their feet BUT it just isn't a truth that exists right now!

I attended a Peace and Love March/Gathering over the weekend just passed and over 600 people attended, which has to say something for humanity - something for a WANT and NEED To spread a little good will, love and hope among people who might otherwise really not realize that it can exist if enough people go out of their way to find it!

I know that a LOT of people at the event are on their last dime and yet the positivity and hope that surrounded each and every one of them was remarkable and almost [dare i say it] tangible!

For one perfect day people came and talked and ate and danced to music provided by bands who happily donated their time. Not a single soul brought their worries with them nor left with an empty belly or heart.

There is a real growing need for change right now and we're all stuck waiting for someone else to tell us where to go and what to do and why, but the truth is, we're our own future and only we can change our path on purpose. Sure, it takes a little luck but we have to chase it and stay strong and work towards the things that keep us happy and sane and grounded!

Helping others to realize when they're in crisis doesn't come with a price tag either! Believe me when I say that a loaf of bread of a box of tea or a packet of cookies to some people is like Christmas in their hands any day of the week - it is just that simple.

People generally think of peace as John Lennon singing Kum bay ya around a camp fire, but it really is more than that! It is being kind to your neighbours and noticing when someone else is in distress or turmoil and doing whatever you can to make life just that tiny bit easier for them, as they may do for you in return some day.

We're all in this [life] together and the only way we're all going to experience it in a positive light is by educating our children, teaching them to respect others and themselves, to know when wrong is done to others and how to make it right. Peace is a full stomach and little stress, it doesn't have to be houses, jobs, taxes and gas prices! There really is a bigger issue going on here, and it is almost a travesty that it goes un-noticed.

Every generation has the chance to change the next and I do hope that perhaps this one is the one lucky enough to realize it!

Stay kind to one another and we'll all get through!

You're not alone.

BOO! - Time to make those ghosts!

This year why not have some fun with the kids and create these really simple little ghosts!

All you need is an empty egg carton, some white cloth or an old T-shirt, some string and perhaps some beads! You could even throw in a pen and a pair of scissors (PLEASE use these with adult supervision only!).

This is SO simple you'll be able to hop off the internet and get started right away and have your little ghosts up and running in no time!

Step 1.
Grab your egg carton and cut each "cup" out of the tray so that you have 6, 12, 24, whichever, individual cups!

Step 2.
Grab an old, white T-shirt, cloth, sheet or whatever you have to hand and cut out pieces long enough to cover your egg cup and have a few inches hanging! You can make them different lengths so cut as many as you can BUT do test the first piece to make sure you have enough! The very first time I did this, I cut it too short and it looked a little less ghostly and more like a marshmallow!

Step 3.
Pierce a small hole in both your egg cup and the point in your cloth where your cloth will sit on top of the cup. Grab your string, which will be cut long enough to hang and sway from wherever you'd like your ghosts to spend their final resting place, and thread it through both holes so that you have your basic ghosts on a string!

Step 4.
For added effect you could draw eyes on your ghost or thread beads or bows or anything you'd like around your string and VOILA! Your great, fun little Halloween decorations have begun! Note: The beads you see in the photo are little glow in the dark stars! You can find them at local craft stores and they'll help your ghosts stand out in the darkest night!

ENJOY - but be warned! These ARE addictive and you'll want to make more!!! :)

Happy Halloween!! It has begun!

Tick tick tick!

One of these days I will finish that book i've been meaning to start for the last 33 years...not that I could write as a baby, but if I were a really smart baby, who could have held a pen, that book could totally have been written before the life stuff got in the way...

Spin it, to Pin it! Goody® Simple Styles Spin Pin Review!

This week I was lucky enough to receive the Beauty bloggers VOXBOX 2012 from Influenster and one of the first things to jump out at me, which really caught my attention were the Goody® Simple Styles Spin Pins, which I had never seen before!

Simple in design but poweful in their application, these pins help you throw your hair into an elegant up do within literal seconds!

The pack gives you examples of 3 different "dos" which include a top bun, side bun and a double bun!

With my hair being so thick, I tried the double bun first and to my delight it was incredibly easy to roll my hair up into its bun and spin the pins in one by one!

My first attempt was a little messy, but I liked it! I did try with one bun but my hair is a little thick and so it might take a little practice to perfect the stand-alone bun!

I would definitely recommend these to friends, even though they do feel a little pricey at $7.29 a box! The cost is very much worth it and it will save you spending so much time trying to pin up your "do" with a plethora of crazy singular pins!

Just pop 2 pins into your bun, or one each if you go for the 2 bun look and VOILA! Instant elegance great for just about every occasion!

Very well done!

Disclaimer: I was not monetarily compensated for this review, but I did receive a set of 2 spin pins to try. The provision of the pins did not influence my thoughts on the items at all and all opinions are my own!

Enfagrow's Toddler Milk Review!

As a member of the SheSpeaks community I was sent a free sample of Enfagow's Toddler milk in regular and in vanilla (4 cartons of each) to try out with my daughter!

Now, as a rule, I don't tend to buy these kind of drinks because regular milk is so much cheaper and just as healthy if your children are getting all the right food groups and daily nutrients as they should be with breakfast, lunch and dinner!

At first I wasn't sure if she would even take to the milk as she is so used to the regular milk, but actually she quite enjoyed it! The vanilla milk went down EXTREMELY well and she did ask for more later in the day! I tasted it myself and it really didn't taste bad at all!

The only real gripe I have with the product is that he serving size for my daughter is too much and so half of each drink was wasted - but if I were to buy the powder and make it up myself, then there wouldn't be a problem at all!

The cartons are bright and fun, the milk tastes good and there are a lot of key nutrients, which can help your child to grow!

The price is a little high, but that is to be expected with these kinds of product, but they are ultimately worth it even if you perhaps provide them as a treat once a day or swap one out for a drink with lunch.

I would definitely recommend them if you can afford the expense and if you're in need of a boost as far as those nutrients are concerned - but these are a luxury extra, not a necessity!

Enfagrow's Toddler Milk was a big hit in out house, my daughter would definitely not say no to more!

Smart Food Selects Taste Test/Review with a Capital YUM!

Imagine my joy when I opened up a box shipped to me from Smart Selects as part of a Bzz Campaign over at BzzAgent.com, which allowed several of its participants to try out several different flavors of product for free!

We received the Brown 'Sugar Cinnamon Popcorn', 'Garlic Tomato Basil Hummus Popped Chips' and 'Feta Herb Hummus Popped Chips' for the taste test and the entire family took to them right away!

We immediately opened up the huge bag of popcorn and had a little taste - these were the sweet treat and so of course the most asked for, but even as a sweet treat they were a smarter option compared to some of the other option available and actually tasted extremely moorish!

The children especially loved the popcorn and were disappointed when I only gave them a small portion - they would easily have eaten the entire bag if I had left them to their own devices, but of course, moderation is a must and, with the bag being resealable, there was plenty more FRESH and tasty popcorn to go around for the duration of the weekend!

We didn't try out the popped chips until later on, but we finally indulged in those while at one of our son's soccer matches that same weekend - we went with the 'Garlic Tomato Basil Hummus Popped Chips'.

In the photo you can see we have the 'Garlic Tomato Basil Hummus Popped Chips' open and each of the children had a few. They are light hummus based popped chips that look and taste great and were enjoyed by even the most skeptical picky eaters of our lot, who is our 16 year old! He is very fussy over the food he puts in his mouth but after trying just one he was happy to snack on a couple more!

The 'Garlic Tomato Basil Hummus Popped Chips' were a very nice blend of flavors and not one overpowered the other at all! They tasted like a pizza in a popped chip, without the cheese or guilt! Very well received all around and with no complaints or screwed up faced! They were a hit!

Lastly, we tried the 'Feta Herb Hummus Popped Chips' and I have to admit, I did eat most of these myself! They were extremely tasty and the soft crunch and crumble seduces you into wanting more! The flavor was well dispersed and, like before with the other flavors, didn't have one element overpowering the other, but gave a real blended even taste in the mouth and left me wanting more!

With 0g trans fat, no msg and no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives added I am overall very impressed with the popped chips and popcorn! They have really delivered on their claims and I personally adore the taste! I am also satisfied that these may provide a snack option for my children on occasions when I may have thought about chips or other snacks, which I have to admit I do not buy on a very regular basis and so these would be a treat rather than a staple in our home - which is never a bad thing!

You can find out more about the company and the full line of products by visiting their website at smartfood.com and see which ones you'd like to try!!

Glade Expressions® - A Review Never Smelled SO Good!

I recently had the chance to try the new Glade Expressions courtesy of coupons I received from BzzAgent.com as a member accepted on one of their campaigns for the product.

I had a coupon for a free room spray and a free oil diffuser and eventually managed to pick up one of each - the room spray in 'Cotton and Mandarin' and and the Oil in 'Pineapple and Mangosteen'.

The idea behind the expressions is that they are re-usable canisters or stands, which can make an almost ornamental statement in any room of your house, with their sleek designs and pretty patterns enhancing any space they might inhabit!

The spray bottles are white underneath their labels and are changeable with a twist of the canister within them. You just twist and remove and discard, keeping the outer shell, which is then used to house your new can. The cost of the 'Starter Kit' is only about a dollar more than the can, if you're buying in Walmart and the refills are about the same cost as any regular can of room spray - but with twice the appeal!!

Similarly, the oil diffusers are very pretty and stand alone well in any room to give it a little pizzazz, while enchanting you with a sweet, light fragrance all day long! It did, however, take me a long while to find this product in the store, which was a little disappointing at first but very much worth the effort keeping up my search as it also came in the one fragrance that seemed to be sold out everywhere I looked for it in a spray - 'Pineapple and Mangosteen'!

I knew I would like both of my chosen scents before I'd even tried them - the names are very edgy but clear and you know what to expect! The product delivers and while the 'Cotton and Mandarin' leaves a light, crisp mist, the 'Pineapple and Mangosteen' releases a pinch of sweetness to please any nose!

I do prefer the pineapple over the cotton, but would buy them both again in a heartbeat! In fact, I now have 3 of the room sprays throughout my house and might have to make a trip back to the store for more of the diffusers very soon now that I have had the chance to try them for a little while!

Glade really has outdone itself with these products and I like each and every one of the fragrances available, of which there are 4:

*Cotton & Italian Mandarin

*Fuji Apple & Cardamom Spice

*Lavender & Juniper Berry

*Pineapple & Mangosteen

You can find out more about these items and read up on a description of their aroma by visiting the glade website!

*disclaimer: I was provided with coupons from BzzAgent in order to test out these products. I was not otherwise monetarily compensated and the free product did not in any way influence my view. Thank you!
