I am not one to say no to trying something new and so, when I was given the chance this week to try out some Organic Matcha, from Kiss Me Organics, how could I say no!?
Not 100% sure what Organic Matcha actually was, or what I was supposed to do with it once I got it, I did a little digging around and discovered that Organic Matcha is actually Green Tea Powder, which can come in different grades and be used for various applications - in this case, we have "culinary grade", which can be used in cooking, lattes and smoothies [among other things] and just a little at a time!
Organic Matcha can provide a boost of energy, steadily, over a long period of time up to about 6 hours and is also thought to be able to aid in the boosting of metabolism and improvement of skin health at up to 137 times the antioxidant content of regular brewed green tea and can improve your ability to focus!
Taken in small amounts, a few times a day, you may be able to see some benefit over a period of time and there is really is no end in the applications for this culinary delight! I personally added it to oatmeal, grits, a latte and some cup cakes so far and, while it turned everything a little green, it didn't taste too bitter and I gave it a go!
With the grits and the oatmeal I just put in a pinch to give it a boost after it was cooked, but with the cup-cakes I put the Organic Matcha in with the main ingredients and baked them up as usual! The cupcakes were a shade of green that was actually not that noticeable if you didn't know what to look for but I would imagine that if you were to bake up a batch of cupcakes with a white batter and add the Organic Matcha to that, then it would make for some vibrant and delightful cupcakes for just about any occasion!
There was a slight aftertaste when trying out foods with the Organic Matcha included, but it wasn't potent enough to put me off of using it at all! I wouldn't imagine that this is the kind of "Green Tea" that you could actually drink as a tea in its own right and this is why this is graded as culinary and not hosted at a premium level, BUT there ARE other tiers of Organic Matcha Green Teas though, which you CAN use for drinking if you are a stickler for a hot [or cold] green tea without the latte!
I have learned a lot about Organic Matcha this past week and am surprised at its cost but delighted by the possible benefits! One small bag can set you back a pretty penny but you really do only need to use such a small amount (maybe half a teaspoon to a teaspoonful) at a time that it last ten times longer than you might expect just by looking at the package!
At $25 a bag right now over at Amazon (down from $39.99), Organic Matcha is NOT cheap, but if it does everything that it claims to do then it is worth every penny!
I have been using the Organic Matcha now for a week or so and I have not felt any ill affects from it but I have convinced myself that I feel great every time I take a bite of something with a little Organic Matcha in it! I don't know if the boost is the actual powder or the power of mind but I definitely see it being a plus either way!
I am definitely happy with the Organic Green Matcha from Kiss Me Organics and will continue to try it out and see how I feel by the end of the bag!
